FoodFriend

FoodFriend is a mobile app designed to help users track their daily nutrient consumption through the food they eat.

My Role

This was a collaborative project between Dylan Cameron, the designer, and myself, the product manager and engineer. All of the linked project artifacts were created by me, but informed by our joint vision for Freshi.

Goals of the Project

Our goals for this project were to hone Dylan’s digital design skills and my product management and engineering skills. Specifically for me, I challenged myself as a backend-heavy software engineer to make an entire project in JavaScript—frontend, backend, and mobile.

User Problem

It's hard to know if you're getting the nutrients you need, when supplements in the USA are prohibitively expensive and completely unregulated by the USDA.

Solution

An app designed to help users track their daily nutrient consumption through the food they eat.

Concerns

• Can you eat enough of certain foods to consume 3 whole nutrients easily?
• We can’t diagnose people so they sort of need to diagnose themselves. We need to be careful to word that it seems like they are looking for more energy and that their diet seems to lack vitamin d which is linked to energy and would they like to track vitamin d?
• Whatever information we offer we need to be encouraging people to speak to a healthcare professional to learn more about the nutrient, or seek diagnosis for a health condition.
