Year Completed: 2021

Brief Summary

For my product management certification at General Assembly, I chose to develop a new moving feature for Uber called, Uber Moves. The idea was inspired by the heinous lengths my friends and I have gone to over the years, to buy furniture and move big apartment renovation builds in NYC. I knew there had to be an easier way.

To start, I identified Uber’s high-level business goals to be increasing revenue and user engagement, and crafted a product vision, “move people towards their dreams,” to fit harmoniously with Uber’s mission to “reimagine the way the world moves for the better.”

Through conducting user interviews and collecting survey data, I validated my assumptions that users wanted a cheaper, easier solution to small-scale moves than existed at the time and that the problem was painful and pervasive enough to warrant a solution. To solve the problem, I designed Uber Moves, a feature that empowered users to schedule small-scale moves in a few more clicks than calling a cab and for slightly more money than U-Haul.

My hypothesis was: “By building an app that allows users to schedule a small move in few more clicks than calling a cab and for a little more money than U-Haul, users will prefer Uber to handle their small-scale moving needs.” I designed metrics and counter-metrics to test my hypothesis and OKRs to align my team’s vision throughout the project. (Metrics, counter metrics, and OKRs are all detailed later in this document.)

My go-to-market strategy was to beta launch in NYC and then roll out to the entire USA, using partnerships and promo codes to target students, people moving homes, handy people, musicians, and artists.
