Year Completed: 2016
During my residency at the Recurse Center in NYC, I started this project and later collaborated with two other residents, Arpith Siromoney and Taylor Burgess, to launch it. Their contributions included: setting up Google SSO, deploying the app to Heroku, upgrading the app to Python 3, and implementing some features and bug fixes. I would highly recommend working with the both of them :)
My goals were to hone my skills in web development, learn Python, and—as a true optimist—gather enough listening data to write my own recommender algorithm.
In 2016, Youtube's music recommendations were superior to that of Spotify, but the interface made it difficult to keep track of new discoveries (this was pre-YoutubeMusic, of course).
A web app that allowed the user to play Youtube videos using Youtube's great algorithm, track a complete history of their listens, save a library of their favorite songs, build out and edit playlists easily, and view trends in their listening over time by genre.
